Stretch it out

​After an on the go weekend and day at work. If you're feeling tense, tight and have some neck pain that's getting you down. 
Try some gentle neck/ shoulder girdle stretches.
Start upright, relaxed (no pen behind the ear required!)
1. Lateral flexion/ side stretch.
Bring/ invite your left ear towards your left shoulder. If comfortable, add gentle over pressure with your hand.
Aim for gentle stretch on ride side of neck, upper shoulder.
2. Combined flexion, rotation, lateral flexion/ smell your arm pit stretch.
Bring/ invite your nose toward your left arm pit . Add overpressure with hand if comfortable.
Aim for gentle stretch back and side of right neck/ upper back, shoulder area.
Breathe into each stretch. Aim for gentle relaxation. Say No to big forceful stretches.
Slow breathing, 30seconds each side
A 2016 study looking at stretching for neck pain in workers, found neck/ shoulder stretching, 3 times a week was effective in improving people's pain and dysfunction.
