​Can’t touch your toes?

Let's talk about some common considerations:

  • Hamstring length
You can improve this by strengthening (Yes, strengthening your hamstrings also improves hamstring flexibility!) and stretching those bad boys!

  • Hip joint range of motion
You can improve hip flexibility. However, a significant part of your hip joint structure and flexibility comes down to genetics. Thanks Mum and Dad!

  • Torso + arm to leg ratio
If you naturally have longer legs + torso relative to your arms,  your biomechanics are making it more challenging for you to touch your toes.  On the upside, you’ve probably got a great high kick on you!

  • How much practice you’ve had
Your body is always adapting to what you are asking it to do. So if you can’t touch your toes and you really want to, ask yourself- How much practice do I do?
 
 
Other considerations:

  • Neural tension
Tension within the nervous system can limit your flexibility or lead to pain through range of motion. This tension can be caused by many different things.

  • Artery flexibility
Flexible arteries are associated with a healthy cardiovascular system. Such a great reminder and good reason to keep mobile and active.
 
 
Want to improve your ability to touch your toes?

  1. Start with what you can do and be gentle.
  2. Daily practice going as far as you comfortably can.
  3. Keep your breathing relaxed.
  4. Be consistent for 3 months.
  5. Bring on the results.
